Finishing woodwork painting to a high standard begins by sanding between coats. Using coarse sandpaper, followed medium-grit and finally fine-grit. Sanding always in the direction of the grain to avoid damaging the surface.

Painting Wood For The First Time

If a surface is not already painted, we apply a water-based primer to seal the wood. Followed by filling any holes or dents that appear. Caulking any gaps found to create a smooth base.

After sanding with 120 grit sandpaper we hoover the surface. Wiping with a damp cloth removes any remaining dust. Application of a water-based undercoat is then left for a few hours to dry.

Two coats of water-based topcoats are then applied. The finish can be either in eggshell, satinwood or gloss. Sanding in-between coats creates that smooth finished look.

Re-Painting Old Wood

When re-painting a wooded area, we scrape off the old coat of paint where any cracking or peeling is present. Then we de-grease around door handles and handrails. Smoothing the surface with 120 grit sandpaper is very important as it allows the fresh paint to grip.

After filling and sanding, we remove any dust. Then apply an undercoat, followed by top coats. Sanding in-between coats creates that smooth finished look.
