Wall Painters – Preparation

Preparing walls in order to have the best finish possible is vital. Using local experienced Essex Wall Painters is key to a perfect job done right.

Remove, Tape and Cover

First of all, we locate and remove any outlet covers, light switches, thermostats and other obstructions. Most of these surface items will get unscrewed and removed. Then, we cover any unmovable items with painters tape. We store all small pieces and replace them upon finishing, leaving everything as we found it.

We’ll find a place to store any furniture not already removed. If space is an issue we can move any items into the middle of the room, covering them with a large canvas. Also, we must ensure the removal or storage of all fragile items to prevent damage.

Fill and Smooth, Dustless Sanding

Filling any holes and removing any old paint that might cause an issue later is key. We use a dust free sanding system to prepare the walls. Sanding to create and preserve the wall’s smoothness.

Mist Coat or Primer?

New plaster gets sealed with a mist coat or wall primer. We leave the primer to dry completely before continuing. Any old dark or bright colours gets blocked out with a high opacity matt paint.

Cut-In and Roll

Once dry, we begin by cutting in the edges with a small brush. Working in small areas of about 1 meter at a time, creating nice clean lines along the wall. Then we begin to roll the walls, working top to bottom to ensure a consistent wet edge and streak free finish.
